| There used to a prodigy server on mIRC, what happened to that server? Is there a server on mIRC to find the prodigy friends there? |

Was it a server specifically for prodigy internet?
The only one I know for prodigy classic that people may have used was called efnet. |

i'd like to get an irc server set up for prodigyclassic.com.. we used to have irc.prodigyclassic.com but the box we were running the server software on is no longer available. if anyone has a free box available, was looking at setting up some open source irc damon.
i've attempted to interface this website with irc servers, the chat is set to connect to efnet servers currently. surprisingly there is not a ton of free code out there that does this, currently i have purchased jpilot (http://www.jpilot.com/) for our site. There are free alternatives like jirc but you can not customize it that much. I would like to make the chat resemble the old prodigy rooms if possible. A flash chat would be a lot fancier and would have a pretty interface but there are a few reasons for choosing IRC as the source for chat.
1. IRC was the alternative to prodigy classic for chat, it's been around forever.
2. Prodigy classic when it became prodigy internet used irc
3. We have been creating a replicate of prodigy classic chat as a windows client application and the chat portion uses IRC as the backbone. (this was done in VB6 and still has a couple tweaks needed to be released, also porting it over to .Net hopefully)
I'll post a sample of the old win 95 buttons which is the next step for the .net project. Anyways again.. if anyone has a box to run the irc server, we can set up irc.prodigyclassic.com to point to it, that would be a great start. |

| I have mIRC, but I can't go on prodigy on mIRC. I don't have prodigy.net though. Wonder if that's why I can't connect to mIRC prodigy. |

I didn't try mIRC but I can't connect directly to irc.prodigy.net either. I tried using mibbit.com an IRC web client and it didn't connect. Maybe you do need to be a member of Prodigy Internet to connect to it.
Also just an FYI, I will be setting up an IRC server for this site. We will be able to connect to it using web chat & also a replica of the old school P* chat available for Windows 2000/XP/Vista. |

| C0rr - Thanks, I started setting up an ircd on a linux box, experimenting with different ones. Ubuntu, debian, someone recommended open bsd I believe too so might try that. I was successful in setting something up for the ircd, just with basic configuration. I am going to start with a fresh install hopefully this weekend. I don't know if you are on chat, if so maybe I can hit you up for some questions on it. |

efnet and undernet's ircds are about the coolest. stay away from unrealircd, it tends to have more security related issues. you might opt for undernets only because you can use services(X). Dalnet's is alright too, im sure you know all about chanserv and nickserv
